The PFS is the largest professional body in the UK for personal finance professionals with around 40,000 members. It is part of the CII Group, the largest professional body in the world for those working in insurance, whose 120,000 members span insurance and financial planning sectors. We are closely aligned with the CII, who provide us with operational infrastructure and services, and whose Royal Charter informs our commitment to securing and justifying public confidence in the professions in which PFS members work.

Operating in a dynamic sector, we lead the financial planning community towards higher levels of professionalism, exhibited through technical knowledge, client service and ethical practice. Committed to providing an outstanding member-experience, we also have a role to anticipate and respond to a range of challenges and opportunities on behalf of our members and the wider public, from the potential impact of AI to regulatory change. Our provision of valued standards, products and services that resonate is also key to member value.

Having recently updated our governance framework, we are now seeking a Non-Executive (Lay) Director to serve as the independent Chair of the PFS Board. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a new high-calibre Board in shaping the future of the PFS, creating a positive environment for members and influencing the future of the industry.

We are looking for an experienced Non-Executive Director with experience of supporting operational growth and/or diversification in a regulated industry. To this end, you will be familiar with complex stakeholder and partner landscapes; navigating multiple agendas and dynamic industry conditions to help steer a course to business success. You will champion continuous improvement and customer excellence, bringing with you a broad commercial skillset, outstanding board and financial governance credentials, and risk management capability.

Regardless of background, you will be an inspirational and credible leader of the utmost integrity. Financially astute and intellectually capable, you will be able to understand and navigate the complexities of a membership organisation, and you will play an important and visible role; leading the PFS Board to maximise its performance and contribution, representing the Board in its accountability to members and the CII, and as the public face of the organisation to its broader stakeholders.

We are excited about our future and hope you will consider applying for this important role.
