With a growing 60,000 strong membership, the work of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapy (BACP) has arguably never been more important. Operating with substantial scope and conviction in the pursuit of social justice, we are proud of the momentum and impact with which we operate. We campaigned tirelessly on our members’ behalf throughout the pandemic, welcoming societal shifts in attitude towards the important profession we serve, and we continued our important work in standards and dispute resolution to maximise accountability and confidence in counselling and psychotherapy.

As we look to the future, we’ll continue to push for an expansion of choice of psychological therapies, and to champion the skills and expertise of our members in everything we do. We’ll also continue to fight for therapists to be fairly paid for the important work they deliver. To do this, we must continue to develop as an organisation, professionalising the way we work, developing a performant and inclusive culture that celebrates success, and embracing innovation.

As our new Chief Executive, you will join at a key inflection point then, as we reset and develop our organisation for the future. We’ll empower you to professionalise the BACP within the context of our value set, providing outstanding leadership internally and externally to ensure that we operate with required quality, impact and influence. Success will result in a modern, relevant membership experience that provides access to standards and commercially viable products and services that resonate, not to mention the latest international research and approaches.

With genuine interest in our work, you will have performed an executive leadership role in a relevant context, possibly through your work in a membership body or charity. However, we are open minded about your sector experience, equally drawn to securing a fresh perspective on our opportunities and challenges as to appointing from within sector. What you must bring is credibility, charisma, commercial nous and inspirational leadership, along with a commitment to inclusive leadership.

We suggest this has the potential to be a personally fulfilling role in which you will broaden the thinking and impact of a dedicated and talented group whose work matters. If this sounds like the challenge for you, we look forward to hearing from you.
