The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres and an international leader in cancer research and education. We are a performance-driven and high-achieving organisation, with the patient at the heart of everything we do.

With a turnover of c£412 million and approximately 3,200 staff, we serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire but, as a national specialist, around a quarter of our patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.

We are renowned as a world pioneer in the care, treatment and research of cancer. We build on this legacy, translating innovation and research breakthroughs into very real patient benefits. Our work today is the treatment of tomorrow across the globe.

Our combination of service, research and education makes us special, and we use a strong business approach to develop our services. Our ambitious strategy includes developing further our unique network of Christie radiotherapy centres and the creation of a state-of-the-art research building in partnership with Cancer Research UK and the University of Manchester.

We are now looking for an experienced, medically qualified senior leader to join our board as a Non-Executive Director.  You will bring a sound understanding of the NHS and board-level experience or equivalent, allowing you to bring different perspectives to our work and the challenges we face.  With a strong commitment to the needs of patients and the personal credibility to challenge and support the executive team to achieve even higher standards of care, you will contribute to all aspects of the board agenda.  Whether you have an appreciation for the value that The Christie offers or possess research experience and academic connections, you will be able to become a strong advocate for the care, research, and education we provide.

We are committed to creating a balanced and diverse workforce. As such we welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds. Together we will foster inclusion and tackle inequity and health inequalities in cancer care.

You will need to show that you share our values and that you can contribute strategically and positively to our board and, through it, to this unique organisation. If you believe your background meets our needs, and your passion and ambition match ours, please contact Will McAlpine, Robin Staveley or Emily Smith of GatenbySanderson via will.mcalpine@gatenbysanderson.com.
