The Government Legal Department employs nearly 3000 people, including over 2000 legal professionals and has offices across the UK. As the largest provider of legal services across government, we work on high profile matters that are frequently scrutinised in Parliament and the media. Our teams advise most Government Departments on policy development, prepare and draft legislation, handle high profile public and private law litigation, support our new trade relationships and provide commercial transactional, litigation and property services – and more.

As our inaugural Director General, Chief Operating Officer, you will be one of the most senior leaders in the Department, right at the heart of setting the strategic direction for GLD and leading the transformation of our corporate services and legal operations functions, helping to make sure we are use technology well to improve service delivery.

To succeed, you will need to be a team player, with excellent interpersonal skills and negotiating ability, as well as a track record in leading teams through periods of uncertainty associated with both continuous improvement. You will be an outstanding corporate leader with strong operational skills and a deep understanding of the legal sector.
