Head-hunters play a vital role in the world of executive recruitment as they identify the best candidates around and match them with the best roles available.

  • If you are contacted by a head-hunter, identify what sort of call it is. Is it a sourcing call to see who you know and what contacts you have – or a targeted call where they know all about you and think you will be right for a role?
  • A good head-hunter should always encourage feedback so feel free to offer it. It’s only by receiving this that they can then understand how to better work with you in the future.
  • Remember that all head-hunters are working to place the best candidates in the job. They are very proud of the reputations they have with their clients and will not do anything to damage that reputation.
  • Treat them as you expect to be treated. Respect and patience shown at the outset will undoubtedly reap rewards in the future.
  • Key to the approach of any head-hunter is discretion, honesty and confidentiality.
