About us

Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is award-winning NHS Trust that has always proudly been at the forefront of delivering innovative health and care. Since our Torbay Hospital nurses’ league formed three years before the NHS began, to becoming the first Trust in England to provide joined-up hospital and community care with social care, we continually strive to be the best at what we do and provide better care for the 286,000 people in our community who rely upon us.

Our hardworking 6,500 staff deliver outstanding care from our main acute hospital, Torbay Hospital, as well as a further five community hospitals. We care deeply about our people and work closely with them to improve what we do.

We are always looking forward and developing new and innovative ways to provide care: we’re leading the NHS’ digital healthcare revolution with our use of cutting-edge technology and augmented reality to help people manage their care in their homes and in the community. We’re working with our acute trusts across the peninsula to develop personalised and place-based care at pace, alongside our £20 million investment in our theatres and endoscopy unit to reduce the length of time people are waiting for care.

We have been given a share of £3.7 billion government funding for a new hospital development, and this investment will drive a one in a lifetime programme of service transformation. We are a key member of the Devon Integrated Care System, and our vision and strategy tie closely into this, using what we have learnt to continue to improve our services for patients. We were the first Trust in England to provide joined-up hospital and community care with social care, and we continue to work with our partners to improve the way we deliver safe, high-quality health and social care.

We have our challenges, but we have an opportunity to significantly improve what we do to regain control of our finances and our performance and ensure our services are sustainable and meet people’s needs, now and in the future.

The Opportunity

As an executive member of our Board of Directors, our Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for driving the strategic direction of the organisation and for the quality of service and care provided to our patients, coordinating key areas as directed by, and agreed with the Board of Directors.
