Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has a reputation for being one of the friendliest hospitals in the country, with good levels of care, high performance against the NHS Constitutional Standards, low infection rates and recently rated as Good by the CQC. It is a circa 400 bedded district general hospital and provides acute services for around 250,000 people living in and around Barnsley – and indeed further afield. Our annual turnover is £230 million and we employ around 3,800 staff. We aspire to build on this success to enhance the quality of our services and our staff’s experience of working in the Trust.
There has never been a better time to join Barnsley Hospital. It is moving at pace and a ‘we can do this’ attitude is evident right through the organisation, where staff are engaged for change and committed to being part of the journey to recovery, sustainability and growth.
As an employee of Barnsley Hospital, you will find that we are committed to the fair treatment of our staff, regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age or disability. We actively promote equality of opportunity for all, welcome applications from a wide range of candidates and select interviewees based on their skills, qualifications, and experience.
We welcome applications from people who wish to apply on the basis of a job share or flexible working arrangement, and we offer access to one of the most generous and comprehensive pension schemes.
We hope that you will choose to join us.
Director of Operations
An opportunity has arisen to join our Executive team as Director of Operations. This represents an excellent opportunity to lead a well-established operations team and a great development opportunity for an aspiring Chief Operating Officer at Board level.
Our new Director of Operations will join a high performing team who have achieved significant progress in the delivery of our operational plan and strategic objectives. The senior operational team in Barnsley requires a leader with the experience to build on our already excellent track record of operational delivery and the ability to engage well with our clinical teams.
A change to the senior operational structure has come about as a result of our Chief Executive taking up a joint role as joint Chief Executive of both Barnsley Hospital and The Rotherham Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in February 2020 in addition to the current Deputy Director of Operations leaving the Trust in February. With the current Chief Delivery Officer and Deputy CEO required to focus externally to a greater extent than before, this role will take responsibility for leading the Trust’s day-to-day operational agenda, as part of the Barnsley Hospital Executive team. Reporting to the Chief Delivery Officer and Deputy CEO you will have line management responsibility for our three CBUs.
In order to deliver the best care to our patients we know we need the best leaders to help us on our journey and to continue to be the best for our patients. We are seeking an experienced senior operational manager leader with a strong track record of delivery obtained at or near Board level in a complex acute organisation (or able to demonstrate similar experience of operating at an equivalent level), with an extensive understanding of operational challenges.
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills will be essential and you will bring the gravitas to influence and engage our stakeholders in the Trust and externally. With expert knowledge of current operational and patient access issues and an innovative thinker, you will bring pace and energy to the senior operations team and will inspire our operational management teams to deliver excellent care and joined up working. Most importantly you will share our values, be an outstanding role model and put patients first in the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care.
For a confidential discussion please contact Robin Staveley or David Heaton of GatenbySanderson on 0113 205 6090. Bob Kirton, Chief Delivery Officer is also available by speaking to Lauren Smirthwaite or Jane Schofield on 01226 431802.
