Our charity of the year – The Conservation Volunteers (TCV)

World Environment Day on 5 June is the biggest international day for the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and held annually since 1973, the event has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach, with millions of people from across the world engaging to protect the planet. To support our broader environmental programme and World Environment Day, we are delighted to announce The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) as our chosen “Charity of the Year” for the next 12 months.

TCV connect people and green spaces to deliver lasting outcomes for both. They do this by bringing people together to create, improve and care for green spaces. From local parks and community gardens to Local Nature Reserves and Sites of Special Scientific Interest; they connect people to the green spaces that form a vital part of any healthy, happy community. Last year alone, TCV worked with 67,305 people across the UK, delivered 41,265 workdays, and transformed 1,051 green spaces.

As part of our partnership, we have a range of activities planned across the company over the next 12 months to help educate our staff as well as raise funds for the charity. Activities include group volunteering days across the UK, sponsored walks, hot coal walking, fundraising days, raffles, bake sales, and salary sacrifices; we have set ourselves a fundraising target of £5,000.

Kevin Gordon, Chief Executive at GatenbySanderson, said:

“TCV sits right at the heart of community engagement transforming our shared spaces and delivering greener and happier environments. It’s for this reason that TCV was the choice of our own GS community as charity of the year, and supports our ongoing commitment to help shape a better society. We can’t wait to get stuck into the many volunteering opportunities and fundraising activity that will contribute to the legacy TCV aims to create.”
