Prior to joining GatenbySanderson, Claire spent three years at Veredus in their Interim Management practice where she specialised in the children’s and adult services sector.

Claire’s international credentials include previous employment with the Capita Group, where she was a member of the original team responsible for developing their recruitment and assessment capability. Claire also spent three years in McKinsey & Company Inc.’s Amsterdam and London offices.

Danny’s responsible for leading the interim team which has quickly grown into one of the major players within its markets. This has been achieved through the collective skills and experience of his interim team and the strengths of the networks available to GatenbySanderson as a leading headhunter. His particular passion is to build a genuinely different offer to the interim community with a particular emphasis on relationships, ongoing development and networking. He also takes personal responsibility for hiring senior interim managers for local authorities in the North of England.

Prior to joining GatenbySanderson at the beginning of 2007, he had worked for a leading competitor for three years and before that had worked for six years at a multinational recruiter in London and Yorkshire. All of his experience has been recruiting within the public sector.

David joined GatenbySanderson in 2005. He has over 15 years’ public sector recruitment experience across health, local government, central government and the emergency services.

As the Local Government Specialist for Barkers, he worked on a number of high profile attraction strategies for Birmingham City Council, Worcestershire County Council, the Corporation of London, Milton Keynes Council, City of Coventry and the Highways Agency.

Since then he has been working with a variety of organisations of similar status, including the Metropolitan Police, Health & Safety Executive, The Cabinet Office, Thames Valley Police, and North Staffordshire Combined Health Authority, across a number of key areas such as diversity, communications and best value.

David also has substantial experience within the charity sector and is on the policy panel of Diabetes UK.

Graham founded GatenbySanderson to provide a portfolio of services to support the performance of organisations through people. Prior to establishing GatenbySanderson, Graham led the development of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ (subsequently Veredus’) Executive Search & Selection regional business in the UK.

As well as having a long-established history of appointing to chief executive level, including posts for numerous London boroughs and county councils, Graham also specialises in leading reconfiguration projects in organisations such as Middlesbrough, Liverpool, Wakefield and Bradford.

Graham believes that long-term client relationships are essential and that these are born out of trust, delivery and integrity. The fact that 77% of our business is repeat business is testament to the effectiveness of this philosophy.

As a qualified solicitor Katrina specialises in finance, legal and human resources recruitment, working within a range of central government departments, regulatory organisations, RDAs and their clusters, higher education and the charity sector.

Maggie joined GatenbySanderson in June 2004, having been a Director of Veredus Executive resourcing for two years prior to that date.  She has a national profile and reputation within local and central government, with a particular focus on Children's and Adult services. She has orchestrated the appointment of many high profile roles including the Director General for Social Care in the Department of Health, Chief Executive and his top team at the General Social Care Council and Chief Executives for the London Borough of Newham and the Isle of Wight Council.

Maggie works on a national level and has experience of managing assignments and projects in all regions.  Her earlier career was spent in a large accountancy/management consultancy firm, local government and seven years in Price Waterhouse's Search and Selection practice.  In addition, she has been the Chair of Governors for an inner London primary school for many years.

He has over 20 years experience as a headhunter, specialising in finding Chairs, Chief Executives and Directors for a wide range of organisations and advising on over 25 public sector start-ups. He has recruited the Chair and Chief Executive of the Audit Commission, the Chief Executive of the UK Borders Agency, Permanent Secretaries and Directors-General across Whitehall and Chairs, Chief Executives and boards for a large number of NHS trusts.

Mark also leads the GatenbySanderson board practice and has a wealth of experience in advising public sector boards on good governance issues, co-authoring 3 pieces of research on start-up, board effectiveness and diversity.

However, from her West Midlands base, Rachel has specialised in senior public sector appointments and projects for the past seven years, including coordinating the recruitment of over 120 qualified solicitors on short term contracts for the OSS.

Nick holds post graduate qualifications in HR, Employment Law and Occupational Safety & Health and is a member of the CIPD. His early career was in HR Management within the manufacturing and automotive sectors, where he helped to establish a new Anglo–Japanese joint venture automotive components manufacturing operation as Head of HR.

He has over 10 years’ experience in recruitment consultancy, conducting a range of senior search and selection assignments for a mix of public and private sector clients.

In recent years he has tended to focus within the public sector in areas such as health, regeneration, RDAs, museums, skills and the Probation Service.

Since joining Gatenby Sanderson in May 2006 Nick has worked for a variety of clients including the General Medical Council, Oldham MBC, Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority, South Tyneside MBC and the City of Wakefield MBC, recruiting into director, assistant director and head of service roles.

Naisa is an Assistant Consultant within the Interim Leadership team, providing interim solutions in the London, North & South regions. She joined GatenbySanderson in July 2007.

She started her recruitment career working for Flame Employment Industrial, as a Service Consultant in the Industrial, Public and Commercial sectors. In her two years in this post she worked closely with clients such as LB Hounslow, Hammersmith & Fulham, and Richmond, to name just a few. Her responsibilities included the co-ordination of bookings for ca. 200 interim employees daily.

In 2005 she moved to Huntress Search as a Commercial Consultant providing various interim office support staff to clients such as IDEA, Local Government Association and Local Government Authority. She joins GatenbySanderson to assistant with the recruitment of interims for the Social Care - Adult & Children Services sectors.

Naisa is currently on Maternity leave.

Loren is a Consultant within the Executive Search North Team, having joined GatenbySanderson in October 2006, initially as an Assistant Consultant. She has worked across a broad range of sectors, including health, local government and the voluntary sector. She has been involved in various assignments across Adult Services, Children's Services, Finance, Legal, Property, IT and Human Resources, including working on a number of roles for new Unitary authorities. She has recently been involved in recruiting Building Schools for the Future senior project leaders.

Loren’s current and recent local government clients include Leeds City Council, Sefton Council, Trafford Council and Cumbria County Council. Loren has also recently been working closely with Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council on their recruitment and restructure within Children’s Services. Prior to GatenbySanderson, Loren started her recruitment career working for Michael Page International, mainly focusing on the interim accountancy and finance market in the private sector.

 

Loren holds a BA (Hons) degree in Business Studies from the University of Sheffield.

Laura’s background is in the private sector, working for a national leisure retail company after leaving university, and then a high street bank. Joining Hodes Public Service in 2004, Laura played a key role at this start-up public sector executive search and selection consultancy by establishing and managing the office and administration systems.

With a degree in Business and Marketing, and also the Chartered Institute of Marketing Diploma in Marketing, Laura has a sound understanding of advertising and communications principles and their implementation in recruitment marketing.

Laura has worked on a wide variety of projects to recruit to key positions in local government and the charity sector, where she has drawn on her core skills in project management and customer service, complimented by her knowledge of the executive recruitment process.

Recent clients include the London Boroughs of Ealing, Hounslow, Camden and Westminster City Council as well as charity sector clients Addaction, IIP and Groundwork.

Juliet focuses on senior recruitment principally within the Education and Justice sectors and has been instrumental in a range of appointments at Chair, Non-executive Director, Chief Executive, Director General and Director level. With seven years’ experience in the industry, she has worked with clients in a range of sectors, including both Central and Local Government and Charities.

A former postgraduate research scholar, Juliet worked in the field of higher education and the Voluntary Sector before becoming a private secretary to a senior Government Minister. With strong research and analysis credentials, she continues to be involved in many of GatenbySanderson’s thought leadership activities and leads our strategic research capability. A recognised authority on matters relating to effective Boards and wider public service delivery issues, she has authored four key reports since 2006, focusing on aspects of organisational development, leadership and governance.

Julia joined GatenbySanderson in November 2006. Her career to date had been within Human Resources in the Civil Service, where she has built up extensive knowledge and expertise in the area of senior recruitment.

Initially working within the Crown Prosecution Service from 1995 to 2000, Julia worked within a number of different areas of HR and latterly recruitment where she managed a number of senior appointments within the department, including all Chief Crown Prosecutors for England and Wales. Julia moved to the Courts Service in 2001 where her role was split between managing the recruitment of all administrative and clerical staff in London Courts (up to 750 posts a year) and providing the range of HR services to all courts staff in London.

In 2004 Julia moved to the Department for Constitutional Affairs where she played a key role providing HR advice and guidance to the most senior staff within the department. During this period Julia was responsible for a number of high profile appointments including The Director of the National Enforcements Service, all operational directors within Her Majesty’s Courts Service and The Head of the Office for the Lord Chief Justice for England and Wales.

Zoe graduated from Leeds University with a BSc (Hons) in Microbiology.  She worked as an accountant for Arthur Anderson for 4 years, gaining her first exposure to public sector clients.  She moved into recruitment about 10 years ago, starting in the private sector before moving into senior level Executive Search & Selection for the public sector. 

 

She has been with GatenbySanderson for over 4 years and has been involved in the recruitment of numerous Chief Executives, Executive Directors, Heads of Service and Assistant Directors within Local Government and the broader public sector. This has included working with county, unitary, met and district councils, Housing organisations waste authorities, regulatory organisations and the voluntary sector. She has recruited across all disciplines, being a generalist, with a broad portfolio of clients.

 

During her career she has been involved in major restructuring work in Housing and Local Government, including most recently project managing the internal assimilation process and external recruitment for the top 2 tiers of the two new unitary authorities in Cheshire (58 posts).

 

Her current and recent local government clients include Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cheshire East Council, Stockport MBC, Blackpool Council, Barnsley MBC, Wirral MBC and Warrington BC.

 

Last year Zoe recruited the first Chief Executive for Browning House, a Family Assessment Centre based in Leeds, and subsequently was invited to become a Non Executive Director for this Charity.

Amanda joined Gatenby Sanderson in September 2007 as Partner in our lnterim Leadership practice, specialising in providing senior executives for interim and consultancy project roles in the health sector and central government departments and agencies.

As an experienced specialist recruiter across a number of market sectors she has over 17 years of resourcing expertise. Prior to joining GatenbySanderson she was an Associate Director for another leading consultancy. After a number of years initially focusing on the recruitment of senior finance professionals she moved to the north and became instrumental in the establishment of a number of new ‘start-up’ resourcing business streams.

Latterly she headed up the Northern Public Services Division, working closely to with the NHS, government bodies, education and local government, specialising in the provision of senior HR, OD and learning and development professionals.

Based in Leeds, Luke leads the Executive Search practice in the Regions, covering the North and Midlands. Luke has worked on a broad range of appointments within local and central government but has a particularly strong track record in children's and adult services, at Director and AD level.  He has led on the appointment of numerous Chief Executive roles in Local Government (recent appointments include Cumbria County Council, Trafford Council, City of York Council and Denbighshire Council), and he has worked closely with the Children's Workforce Development Council on their Chair and Board appointments.  He has also helped Local Authorities appoint to sensitive senior roles during a time of Government intervention. His key clients include Salford City Council, Leicestershire County Council, Cumbria County Council and City of York Council.

Luke started his career in marketing within higher education before joining the PricewaterhouseCoopers (subsequently Veredus) Executive Search and Selection. He joined GatenbySanderson in January 2004.

Maureen’s experience is focused on Recruitment and Employee Relations.

This includes four years working with the Audit Commission, undertaking the recruitment of Best Value Inspectors, Housing Inspectors and support posts during the start up of the Best Value Inspection Service.  She was also responsible for providing employee relations advice to managers in four regional locations across the country, and providing advice and support during the Audit Commission’s restructuring of business support including corporate functions.

Since joining GatenbySanderson she has worked on a range of senior appointments for Local Government clients.

Maureen, having graduating from university with a BA in Employment Studies and Business Law, was a management trainee with Abbey National Plc. She is a member of CIPD, has a MA in Personnel and Development and is BPS levels A & B qualified. Most recent assignments include the Chief Executive for the London Borough of Southwark and the Director of Programme and Property Management for the London Borough of Lewisham.

Penny joined GatenbySanderson from Saxton Bampfylde and previously KPMG.  Prior to moving into the executive search industry, Penny worked across local and central government and the private sector, holding posts in Education and Housing for Brighton & Hove City Council, and was Head of the Chief Executive's Service at the London Borough of Hackney. She has also worked in a policy remit at the DfES, and held a communications post, reporting to the Executive Chairman of a FTSE 100 company providing outsourcing services to the public sector.  Penny moved into executive recruitment in 2005.

Penny is currently on Maternity leave.

Jo takes a lead role within the Health Practice, working with clients across the sector.  She has eight years experience in executive search and has worked extensively across health, local and central government and education, including senior appointments for the Care Quality Commission, Local Government Association, the Audit Commission plus a wide range of London Boroughs and County Councils.

She has had particular success in appointing first time to challenging roles, recently recruiting five top finance positions for South London Healthcare NHS Trust, within a highly demanding timescale and when the predecessor Trusts had experienced great difficulty recruiting to these senior level posts. She also has very good depth of experience in attracting candidates across sectors, recently working on the search for a Chief Executive of an NHS Trust where a candidate from Housing was appointed.

Prior to joining GatenbySanderson, Helen successfully established her own financial recruitment company in the West Midlands before joining a leading national financial recruiter where she was responsible for opening and managing a Midlands office appointing senior finance professionals. Helen is also a fluent Welsh speaker.

Helen will be focusing on the delivery of assignments in the Midlands and Wales, providing senior executives for interim and consultancy project roles across Local Government, Housing, RDAs and Partnerships.

Since recently joining, Laura has supported the delivery of single and multiple recruitment assignments as well as coordinating the simultaneous delivery of 14 Children's Services roles for the London Borough of Lambeth. She has also been involved in senior level recruitment assignments for a variety of clients including the London Borough of Ealing, Department of Health and HM Prison Service.

Previously, Laura was a Researcher where she successfully sourced candidates for a range of senior roles particularly within Local Government including Chief Executives, Directors and Heads of Service across a broad range of professional areas from HR, Finance and IT to Regeneration and Planning.  Laura holds a BSc (Combined Hons) Degree in European Studies and Sociology.

Madeleine joined GatenbySanderson in Leeds as a Senior Consultant in April 2009. She was previously an Assessment Consultant at a search consultancy in Cheshire, where she worked with organisations across the public and private sectors. Madeleine advises her clients on best practice approaches to identifying and developing talented people. She supports them with activities such as assessing leadership qualities for recruitment and personal development; designing and facilitating 360-degree feedback programmes; building high performing teams; and constructing leadership competency frameworks. Madeleine is trained to use a wide variety of psychometric tools and she has considerable experience of designing bespoke work simulation exercises.

Madeleine has worked within local government, NDPBs, charitable organisations and higher education. In particular, she has in-depth knowledge of the NHS, having worked extensively within the sector. She writes regularly for the Health Service Journal. She has also worked with household names such as Orange, Mothercare and Nestlé, which gives her a broad range of experience to share with her clients.

A graduate of the University of Manchester, Madeleine has a First Class Honours degree in Psychology and an MSc in Occupational Psychology.

Prior to her appointment, Yasmin spent three and a half successful years recruiting interim IT professionals and Project Managers for the NHS National Programme for IT within the Midlands, Cambridgeshire and Northwest.  This enabled her to develop an in depth understanding of the Public Sector and NHS priorities and a passion for securing the right individuals to help her clients deliver their objectives.

A Partner with GatenbySanderson, John recently joins as a lead member of the Central Government practice, with responsibility for commercial appointments and expanding regional business.

John offers a national reputation, working with customer-centric organisations across the private and public sectors to bring relevant commercial knowledge and experience to government. As such, John knows what to look for in terms of cultural fit, whilst advising candidates and clients alike in terms of the transition both parties are likely to experience.

He spent his earlier career in accountancy / consultancy recruitment followed by over 10 years within the search and selection market, working with Central Government, NDPB's and related Agencies. Recent key appointments include: two Chief Scientific Advisers for large Government departments, the Non Executive Board for a recently established and high profile NDPB, as well as enhancing and restructuring a number of Finance, IT, Procurement and Commercial leadership teams, across Government.

Prior to his appointment, Greg spent four successful years recruiting interim policy and strategy professionals to local and central government for a leading public sector recruiter.

Working from our London office, Greg's focus is on delivering assignments in the South East, providing senior executives for interim management, consultancy and project roles across Local Authorties, RDA's and Partnerships.

Helen Oates

Finance Director

Helen joined Gatenby Sanderson in August 2005 to head up the Finance team. She is now the Finance Director and has overall responsibility for some of the key operational areas across the company including Finance, HR, Talent Group, Business Support, Legal and IT.

Helen has over 15 years’ finance and business experience. She spent nearly 8 years at Deloitte in Leeds where she qualified as an accountant working with different business from owner managed businesses to large companies. She was also involved in graduate recruitment, training and cross selling at Deloitte.

For a different challenge she moved to ASDA Head Office in Leeds where she worked for 3 and a half years. Helen worked on the Head Office budget, forecasting and planning and then headed up the Corporate technical accounting team reporting to Wal-Mart in the US. In addition she was involved in recruitment, training and charity work.

In her spare time she is musical, playing the piano, organ and guitar.

Sam Ellis

Head of Marketing and Digital Resourcing

Sam joined GatenbySanderson in 2006 with responsibility for marketing and online activity. She leads on digital innovation and has developed online platforms to attract and manage candidates and provide project management tools. With over 500 assignments per year, intelligent thinking is the focus of all activity. Sam has a particular enthusiasm for sharing this technical capability with clients to provide a better user experience and ensure greater efficiencies. She works across each specialism, managing product development, advertising and promotion and works directly with a number of clients to manage media planning and communications.

A career marketer, Sam has worked on both client and agency side across a range of brands, fmcg and leisure organisations. Prior to GatenbySanderson, Sam headed up the sales promotion division of a major communications agency. Creative thinking, effective project management and a focus upon delivery are the tools of her trade.

Maxine O’Fee

Maxine joined GS in July 2010 to focus on our Interim Contracts offering across Local Government, Housing, and Partnerships. Prior to her appointment, Maxine spent three and a half years with a national recruiter, specialising in placing senior finance professionals within the private sector across the South West.  Maxine graduated with an MA Hons in History from Edinburgh University.
