Interim Chief Executive Case Study

The Situation

Recently formed from the community provider services of Hertfordshire PCT, and with a timetable in place to achieve Foundation Trust status, Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust needed a chief executive who could quickly identify and resolve internal inefficiencies at the same time as building strong partnerships across the local health and social care economy.

The Brief

GatenbySanderson was asked to identify a shortlist of interim chief executives with NHS experience and strong commercial skills to bring a new perspective to the challenges facing the Trust.  Candidates needed experience of transforming organisations by introducing a more commercially viable business model whilst maintaining morale and quality of care.

What We Did

Relying on our network of senior NHS leaders we quickly identified a number of available career interim chief executives who were interested in the challenges posed by Hertfordshire.

The Outcome

After meeting the shortlisted candidates, the Trust chose a candidate whose experience included a series of major secondary care turnarounds as well as leadership roles in the private sector.
