Changing Minds Case Study

How it came about

GatenbySanderson was secured by the Changing Minds group of grant-making organisations to provide specialist recruitment services in support of a new start up. The organisation being created was a new Social Justice Communications Agency.

The brief

We were required to support the Group in appointing the Agency’s first director. This was an unbranded new entity, with governance arrangements still being decided. Amidst all of this, we were required to attract exceptional individuals who could offer the leadership, media and strategic communications, and start-up experience required. In addition, we were looking for someone capable of engaging with faith leaders, business leaders, and who could win the hearts and minds of the public on some challenging social issues.

What we did

This was not a straightforward recruitment exercise. In fact, recruitment done well rarely is straightforward. We worked with the Group on issues extending well beyond the traditional recruitment remit, to explore the context, future branding considerations, and practical aspects such as location of the new organisation and the developing funding base the new appointee would have to work with. We briefed as thoroughly as possible, and with a range of stakeholders. And we drew up a comprehensive search geography that was aimed at attracting the widest range of talent – including profiled individuals known to many, but also new talent.

The outcome

Since successfully placing an outstanding Director, we have continued working with the Changing Minds group to establish the Agency’s first Board.
